The 1st Youth Energy Academy in Asia is welcoming applications until 31 August 2019.
The 7-day intensive programme will take place on 28 October – 3 November 2019 at the Asian Institute of Technology, in Pathum Thani, Thailand (40 km north of Bangkok).
The programme will equip participants with basic knowledge and skills to develop decentralized renewable energy (DRE) projects. Participants will learn about best practices and case studies from a wide range of expert guest speakers, visit a community renewable energy project, and connect with other young like-minded people while fostering a “can-do” attitude to develop their own projects.
This unique programme will consist of:
Theoretical morning sessions focusing on decentralized renewable energy (DRE) approaches to address some of the climate, energy access, and developmental challenges faced in Asia.
Practical afternoon sessions where participants can build simple solar energy systems to be shared with nearby communities.
Informal evening sessions providing interactive activities in a social and informal atmosphere, including debates, film screenings, and panel discussions.
Target participants are young women and men in their 20s (born roughly between 1989 and 1999), from South and Southeast Asia. Applicants are expected to demonstrate passion about climate action, renewable energy, community development or related fields, and a commitment to advance sustainability in their communities. No prior knowledge and experience is needed.
Full scholarships, including travel, room, and board are available for approximately 20 selected participants.
